Edmund de Waal: Signs & Wonders, V&A London. © Rittergut & Runnymede

On our recent trip to London, we took the opportunity to visit one of our favourite museums, the V&A to see some of Edmund de Waal’s work. Signs & Wonders is a collection of 425 vessels on a red metal shelf floating above the cornice, appearing to be held in space in the dome. Edmund de Waal describes this work as a distillation or after-image of the 3 V&A ceramic collections, Chinese porcelains, 18th-century-European porcelains, and modern pieces from Vienna, Bauhaus, and the Constructivists. Signs & Wonders is a collection “to add to this collection of all collections.” (Edmund de Waal)
