When craft meets modern technology. The combination of the 2, traditional techniques and modern manufacturing methods can create something new, something that can only be created by taking the best of both worlds. The British sculptor Hamish Mackie initially created a life-size clay model of an octopus to make a mold for a bronze sculpture and he also laser scanned the piece. This scan was the starting point for using techniques normally used in bespoke Formula 1 racing to produce a scaled-down version in laser sintered Titanium. The stunning result is a new edition of “Octopus”, one-fifth of the size of the bronze version, retaining incredible detail, such as Hamish’s fingerprints from the original clay sculpt.
